Kinesiology
What is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology basically means the scientific study of human movement. It relates to physiological, mechanical, and psychological mechanisms within the body. Kinesiology works on the premise that all blockages and imbalances within the body can be detected with the use of muscle monitoring as a reliable biofeedback system accessing the subconscious mind allowing the body’s innate ability to clear and heal itself.
(kin-easy-ology)
“Kinesiology encompasses holistic health disciplines which use the gentle art of muscle monitoring to access information about a person’s well being. Originating in the 1970’s, it combines Western techniques and Eastern wisdom to promote physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. Kinesiology identifies the elements which inhibit the body’s natural internal energies and accessing the life enhancing potential within the individual.”
Definition approved by the Australian Kinesiology Association 1999.
The practice of Kinesiology strives to maximize the body’s ability to self-heal through therapies and disciplines that monitor and encourage energy flow between the body’s muscles and organs. This holistic health outlook promotes overall good health, creating physical and mental benefits. Kinesiology is one of the fastest growing segments of alternative medicine, as millions of people are beginning to understand and experience the advantages of using kinesiology.
Kinesiology heals through non-invasive procedures that have been developed based on ancient methods of medicine, including acupressure and massage. Focusing on creating balance in the body, the goal is to increase overall health and well-being. A kinesiologist will observe your muscles for imbalances, physical pain, and mental strain. These can present themselves in the form of depression, nervousness, poor posture, or digestive difficulties. Kinesiology is an holistic approach to health care, combined with a variety of natural health modalities including acupressure, neuro-vascular and neuro-lymthatic systems, meridian energy flow, various forms of counselling, body psychology, brain integration, nutrition, homeopathy, chakra healing, structural balancing including TMJ, colour and sound therapy, essences and essential oils. A kinesiology session is specific to the individual.
Ultimately Kinesiology works by connecting the mind, body and soul and frees you up to live the life you want.
How did Kinesiology come about?
Applied Kinesiology was originally used by chiropractors back in the 1960’s. It’s founder an American chiropractor Dr George Goodheart discovered that when a muscle was monitored it revealed vital information corresponding to the body’s internal organs. In the years since kinesiology has continued to be used by both chiropractors and other healthcare professionals with continued clinical research verifying its many new findings.
